They found it in the attic beneath a tarp of moth-eaten quilts and a stack of yellowing film canisters: a hard drive the size of a pulp novel, its aluminum skin nicked and warm from the house's long, slow summer. Stenciled on a strip of masking tape in a looping, impatient hand were three words that made no sense together—old4k new full—and yet as Mara cradled it, the syllables arranged themselves into a promise.
